SM East boys 58, Lee’s Summit 51 – Moments after Shawnee Mission East’s victory against Lee’s Summit, Lancers coach Shawn Hair sat back in a courtside chair and exhaled.

“How did we win that game?” he asked.

The simple answer: After trailing 18-9 at the conclusion of the first quarter, Hair shifted his team away from its patented man-to-man defense and into a 1-2-2 zone.

Once the Lancers settled down on defense, sophomore Vance Wentz (24 points) and senior Zach Nass (17 points) carried the offense with a blistering outside shooting display as the Lancers rallied and improved to 4-0.
