CONGRATS TO BOYS SWIM AND WRESTLING

The Boys Swim team won State this past Saturday by beating Blue Valley North. Congrats to all the boys who participated.

Congrats to the Boys Wrestling team for winning Regionals. 13 boys will be competing at State this Saturday. That is the most in school history.

It is great to be a Lancer!!!!

Girls State Tennis Team Honored in Topeka

Congratulations to the Girls State Tennis team of Elizabeth Barnickel, Elizabeth Wilcox, Mimi Fotopoulos, Mollie Cooper, Stephanie Wilcox and Meredith Shackelford. The girls were honored in Topeka on Monday by Senator Huntington.

Wrestlers WIN Sunflower League Title.

SME wins the Chick-Fil-A Challenge

SME beat Rockhurst in the Chick-Fil-A Coaches vs. Cancer challenge. Chick-Fil-A will make a donation of $1410 to Coaches vs. Cancer in Shawnee Mission East’s name. Thanks to all of our students, parents and staff for supporting our win.

Chick-fil-A Competition – SME v. Rockhurst

The competition is not only on the basketball court. SME will be competing with Rockhurst to raise the most money for “Coaches v. Cancer” with the help of Chick-fil-A at Ward Parkway, 8551 State Line Rd, Kansas City, MO.
From Monday, January 23 through Friday, January 27 at 5PM, when people purchase breakfast, lunch or dinner and mention they are with SME, Chick-fil-A at Ward Parkway will donate 10% of the proceeds to “Coaches v. Cancer”.
SM East has never won this competition, so give yourself a break and eat out this week. Let’s support “Coaches v. Cancer” and SME with the help of Chick-fil-A.

Important Message from SME

Due to safety concerns for our students, we are requiring all students that are middle school age and below to have a parent or guardian with them at all sporting events. If a student is dropped off without a parent or guardian, he/she will not be admitted to the event and a parent will be called for pick up. All children in attendance should be either sitting or standing next to their parents or guardians during the event. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter. Thank you.

New Scheduling website

The Shawnee Mission School District has just converted to a new scheduling website for all athletics. Please visit www.sunflowerleague.org, select Shawnee Mission East on the right side of the screen. That will take you to the SME sports home page. Then all you do is select the schedule you want and you will be directed to that schedule.

Ticket Prices – 2011-2012

The Sunflower League will have new ticket prices for sporting events in 2011-2012. The new prices will be $7 for adults and $5 for students (with a valid ID). Spectators should be prepared to pay these prices at all events that they attend, regardless of the level. District policy is if there is a Varsity game, you will be charged a ticket price to attend the sub-Varsity games.

It is highly encouraged that all SME supporters purchase a booter club pass which gives them free admission to all SME HOME games. Information about purchasing a booster pass can be accessed by clicking on the “Booster Club” tab on the smesports.org home page.

Important Reminders

As we approach the beginning of the 2011-2012 school year, there are a couple of things to keep in mind. First, all practices begin on Monday, August 15. Please contact your coach for practice/tryout details. Also, all paperwork must be filled out and on file with the Athletics Secretary prior to the first practice. There are 3 required from this year: Physical form, Participation form, and Concussion Release form (new this year). All of these forms can be found by clicking on the following link:

Last, but not least, Sam Brown has been named the new AD at SME. Sam brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and passion to the position and we are excited for him to join the SME staff.
